Yip’s Children’s Choir
The Yip’s Children’s Choir is dedicated to achieving the highest standard of performance. By learning a large repertoire, our choristers are able to gain more knowledge and nurture their appreciation of music. Participating in a well-organized, facilitating choral group helps the child develop more self-confidence, creative thinking, and a sense of identity. Team play, social etiquette, ability to follow directions quickly and accurately, and listening to others are also extremely important and useful skills developed by participating in a choir. The repertoire includes classical (Renaissance to Contemporary) music, religious works, art music, folk music, musical theatre, Broadway musicals, and operettas. There are three groups within the choir: Junior, Intermediate, and Senior Choir.

Yip’s Junior Choir is under the leadership of Ms. Patricia Heath. Besides learning vocal skills, they also experience some percussion and interesting instruments to compliment their performances. The Junior Choir is open to children aged 4 to 6, and rehearses every Saturday.
Yip’s Intermediate Choir is introduced to children who would like to experience music in a different format. This choral group attends weekly rehearsals during weekdays, and is open to children aged 6 to 12.
The Yip’s Children’s Choir (Canada), a non-profit subsidiary of the internationally acclaimed Yip’s Children’s Choir (Hong Kong), was founded in 1990 in Toronto. The Choir is dedicated to the promotion of formal music and fine arts education in children and youth. The repertoire ranges from the Renaissance to the Contemporary period. The Choir aims to achieve the highest standards of performance, while developing each chorister into an alert, creative, well-disciplined and self-confident young individual. In 1992, 1993 and 1996, the choir made three highly successful overseas concert tours to Vancouver, Thailand, Hong Kong, Taiwan and China for cultural exchange. The Yip’s Children’s Choir launched two CD albums, We, the Children (1993) and Ocean! My Homeland (1996). In the summer of 1999, the choir was invited as core members of Chorus Canadiana to participate in the 6th International Choral Festival in Hong Kong and Beijing, in celebration of China’s fiftieth anniversary. in 2001, the choir was invited to participate in the Calgary International Choral Festival.

The process of teaching is systematic and the content covers all basic knowledge concerning drawing and painting. The class is relatively large, but along with individual teacher assistance and quality education, each student will develop their own unique artistic styles. The curriculum will begin with simple material. Every class will obtain a different learning topic in order to help each student learn the drawing skill, improve artistic sense and using art language to express themselves. Through individual development, students in the class will gain valuable tools which will help their future growth. The Visual Arts Curriculum is taught by Mr. Jack Xia, who is knowledgeable in various art techniques such as Western painting, Chinese painting, cartoon, and children’s arts.
